Industrial LCD Mirror Display Solutions: Two Methods – Software & LCD Driver Board

The first method lets customers’ main control systems process mirrored images, with us supplying matching LCD panels and LCD driver boards. The second method uses our LCD driver board with image mirroring function. Both solutions have been widely used in industrial control, medical equipment and embedded display projects, and can be selected and customized according to different project needs.

I. What is Mirror Display?

Mirror display means adjusting the direction of the display image without changing original image data to fit actual usage scenes. LCD panels cannot process image rotation themselves, so image direction adjustment must be done by signal sources or LCD controller boards. Mirror display is an essential advanced technology for vehicle rearview systems, special medical devices like medical endoscopes, optical reflection imaging equipment and special industrial equipment. With strong custom capabilities in display drivers, Hengxinda provides two proven mirror display solutions as below.

Solution 1: Realize Mirror Display via Main Control System

This method completes image mirroring on the customer’s main control system or signal source side. The main control board finishes image flipping before outputting video signals, while the LCD screen and LCD driver board only display received signals normally. Customers only need high-stability LCD panels and supporting LCD driver boards to show images.
For this solution, the core technical focus lies on the specifications of matched LCD panels and driver boards. Based on customer demands, we provide the 8.4-inch high-brightness Tianma LCD panel P084XGF1MA00 and our self-developed high-spec LCD control board HXD-H58. This customized display set perfectly matches signals from customer equipment main control systems and delivers high refresh rates under strong light environments.
However, this solution has limitations. First, it relies on customers’ software development capacity. If the system is closed or pre-programmed, software modification will be very difficult. Besides, adaptation costs rise across different platforms, and software maintenance workload increases sharply when multiple product models are involved.

Solution 2: Driver Board with Image Mirror Display Function

This method integrates image processing into LCD control boards, and the driver board handles mirroring. Input signals (LVDS, eDP, HDMI, RGB etc.) first flow into the driver board, where the control chip processes images before outputting them to LCD panels. When customers’ original front-end devices cannot output mirrored images, we provide our self-developed HXD-V53 LCD driver board with mirror display functions.
The biggest advantage of this solution is strong universality, as it does not depend on customers’ main control systems. It is ideal for industrial control devices, medical equipment and mass-produced embedded products. It also shortens product development cycles, lowers system integration difficulty and ensures stable performance in later maintenance.

II. Technical Comparison of the Two Mirror Display Solutions

The two schemes fit different application scenarios. If customers have strong software development capabilities and open system architecture, mirroring via main control systems is a low-cost option. For embedded devices, industrial control equipment and medical devices that require stability and mass production consistency, driver board mirroring is a better choice.
Software-based mirroring suits flexible development, while hardware driver board mirroring focuses on standardization and mass production.
